The ripples on our flanges allow the breast tissue to stay in contact with the plastic so there's no loss of suction when the breast tissue on top falls away from the funnel, allowing it to "burp."
The ripples also allow for stimulation of the breast. Rotating the flange slightly, or even a full 180 degrees, provides the opportunity for the breast to be stimulated by the ridges in other areas. Sometimes, pumping parents have reported another letdown when they rotated the flanges.
