Since you can only apply one flange at a time, it is very important that you don’t let all of the suction be lost from the side you are not applying yet. If it is just sitting in front of you, the suction from the pump will go through that flange and you won’t have enough suction to adequately apply the first one. We need that suction to pull you up to the surface of the flange. The easiest way to stop the suction from being lost on the side you aren’t applying is to kink the hose of the 2nd one (bend it in half) and hold it that way until the 1st flange is applied to the breast.
